Sony begins demo distribution test overseas

Sony Computer Entertainment will begin testing a new PSP retail download service, the company revealed. Beginning Saturday the 8th, the Sony Building in Tokyo's Ginza shopping district will be home to the first PlayStation Spot terminal along with downloadable versions of Piposaru Academia 2 (Ape Escape Academy 2), Portable Resort, Rockman Rockman (Mega Man Powered Up), Bytto Hell 2000 and IGN Tokyo game Show favorite Loco Roco.

PlayStation Spot debuted at last month's Tokyo Game Show, allowing attendees to download demo versions of games via game sharing. The service mimics Nintendo's own retail download service for the DS which is already in place throughout Japan. Once you've turned off your PSP's power, the downloaded game disappears for good -- you unfortunately cannot save the demo to your memory stick.
Sony seems intent on making the download service a success. The company has started airing television commercials promoting the service and plans to expand it to other shops and game events in the future.
